We arrived in Kiwiland just in time for Christmas. So good seeing all the Wests in one place.
We spent the majority of Christmas hiding wrapping paper from Kea. She would squirrel away paper in her cheek then cough up a big lump. Occasional finger-cheek probes were necessary. After Christmas we decided to chase the sun and head up to Doubtless Bay for a bit of never-ending summer. It was here that we started Kea on solid food. So far her diet consisted of milk, leaves, fluff and sand. Not that milk cereal mixed with apple-puree is much of a step up but it was good practice for Cols and I setting up a food-zone. We didn’t bring a baby chair on this trip so nearly all our feeding was done sitting on the floor. Except for the first 2 bites Kea is much more interested in chewing the spoon rather than eating food.
It was nice and sunny up north – if a little windy at times. I hadn’t been this far north before so we did the big tour. Auckland, Piha, Doubtless-bay, 90-mile-beach, giant-sand-dunes, Kauri forests, Cape-Reinga, Waitangi then back.
We had a great time in Auckland/Northland but it was time to head south…
